Life process
Living things-Those things which are alive are called living things.
Q1. What is the criteria to observe something is alive?
Ans- The most common criteria to identify something is alive or living is movement. All the living things are moving by themselves not by any external force.
*NOTE. Plants are also a living thing but Thier movement is observed with difficulty.
Non-living things-those things which are not alive . Non living things cannot move by themselves without any external force provided.
Example- chair,bed,fan,box.
Q2. What is life processes?
Ans- The common function performed by all the living organisms are known as life processes. Like- transport and excretion, control and coordination, growth, movement and reproduction.
Q3. What is the common energy source of living organisms?
Ans-Food is the most common energy source of living organisms.
Glucose-glucose is the simplest food and it is is also called simple sugar.
Starch- starch is made from glucose and starch is also known as carbohydrate.
Nutrition
Nutrition is the process of intake of nutrients [like carbohydrates, fats, protein, minerals, vitamins and water] by an organisms.
Modes of nutrition
1. Autotrophic.
2. Heterotrophic.
Autotrophic mode of nutrition
-Autotrophic is a mode of nutrition in which an organisms synthesis it's own food from the simple inorganic materials.
*NOTE- The autotrophic organisms contains the green pigment called chlorophyll which is green in colour.
Q4. What are autotrophs?
Ans- The organisms which make their own food by carbon dioxide and water are called autotrophs.
Heterotrophic mode of nutrition
-Heterotrophic is the mode of nutrition in which the organisms cannot make their own food by simple inorganic materials, and depends on other organisms for their food.
*NOTE- All the animals have heterotrophic mode of nutrition.
Types of heterotrophic nutrition
1. Saprotrophic nutrition.
2. Parasitic nutrition.
3. Holozoic nutrition.
Saprotrophic nutrition- Saprotrophic are the nutrition in which the organisms take their food by decaying matter of dead plant , dead animals.
Parasitic nutrition- Parasitic are the nutrition in which an organisms derives its food from the body of another organisms.
Example-Roundworm
Holozoic nutrition- Holozoic is the nutrition in which the organisms take their complex organic food by the process of ingestion.
Q5. What is photosynthesis?
Ans- Photosynthesis is the process by which the plants make their own food from carbon dioxide and water in the present of ⛅ sunlight
Carbon dioxide+water+light energy = glucose + oxygen
Condition necessary for photosynthesis
1. Sunlight
2. Chlorophyll
3. Carbon dioxide
4. Water
Q6. How the plants obtain water for photosynthesis?
Ans- the plants take water for photosynthesis by their roots which is present under the ground.
Division of animals by their eating habits
1. Herbivorous
2. Carnivorous
3. Omnivorous
1. Herbivorous- The animals which eat only plants and they depend only on plants are called herbivorous.
2. Carnivorous- The animals which eat only other animals flesh or meat are known as carnivorous.
3. Omivorous- The animals which eat both plants and animals are known as omnivorous.
